Enter any amount, whether it's an hourly rate, a monthly figure or an annual salary, to see it converted to every other pay period. Change the hours per week and paid weeks per year to match your job, and see your effective hourly rate once paid time off is taken out of the hours you actually work.

How to use it

  1. Enter an amount and choose its period: hourly, daily, weekly, biweekly, semi-monthly, monthly or annual.
  2. Set your hours per week (40 by default) and days per week (5).
  3. Set paid weeks per year. Leave it at 52 if you're paid all year, including vacation. Lower it if you have unpaid time off, like a seasonal job or unpaid summers.
  4. Optional: enter paid weeks off to see what you earn per hour actually worked.

How it works

Annual pay is your hourly rate times hours per week times paid weeks, and hourly is the same math in reverse. Every other period is the annual amount divided by the number of those periods in a year.

Quick shortcut: a 40-hour, 52-week year has 2,080 hours, so roughly halve the hourly rate and add "thousand." $25 an hour is about $50,000 (exactly $52,000).

Worked examples

$52,000 a year

at 40 hours and 52 weeks: $52,000 ÷ 2,080 = $25.00 an hour. That's $4,333.33 a month and $2,000 every two weeks.

$75,000 with two unpaid weeks.

Only 50 weeks are paid, so $75,000 ÷ (40 × 50) = $37.50 an hour. With 52 paid weeks it would be $36.06.

Hourly to salary.

$30 an hour at 37.5 hours a week is $30 × 37.5 × 52 = $58,500 a year. $22 an hour full time is $45,760.

What paid vacation is really worth.

On a $60,000 salary with 3 weeks of paid time off, you're paid for 2,080 hours but work 1,960. That's $28.85 per paid hour but $30.61 per hour actually worked, which is useful when comparing a salaried job with PTO to a contract role with none.

FAQ

How do I convert salary to hourly?

Divide the annual salary by the hours you work in a year. For a standard 40-hour, 52-week year that's 2,080 hours, so $52,000 ÷ 2,080 = $25 an hour.

How do I convert hourly to salary?

Multiply the hourly rate by hours per week and by paid weeks. $20 × 40 × 52 = $41,600.

$25 an hour is how much a year?

$52,000 at 40 hours a week for 52 weeks, before taxes.

What's the difference between biweekly and semi-monthly pay?

Biweekly is every two weeks, which is 26 paychecks a year. Semi-monthly is twice a month, or 24 paychecks. On $52,000, a biweekly check is $2,000 and a semi-monthly check is $2,166.67.

Does this include taxes?

No. Everything is gross pay. Your take-home pay will be lower after federal, state and payroll taxes, benefits and retirement contributions.

Should I count paid vacation as hours worked?

For your official hourly rate, yes, because you're paid for those weeks. To compare against freelance or contract work, use the effective hourly figure, which only counts hours you actually work.
